The Trout-7 is a microphone concept built for conversations by the esteemed Ehrmantrout brand! Some of you may know (or not) that I host the podcast over at Learn Squared. And with over 100 epsiodes under my belt, I have spent countless hours with my recording gear and tools, always thinking, 'Wouldn't it be cool if it did this?' So I've decided to use my design skills to develop some concepts in the podcasting space. And first up is this microphone, which is modelled after my trusty Shure SM7 (the mic you see in pretty much every podcast around). And the mic is great, but those who have ever worked with mics and pre-amps know there is still work to do with the raw audio, especially if you're recording in an untreated place. The Trout - 7 design solves this by compressing the pre and post-production steps I usually have to take and lets it all happen live in the mic. Bespoke capsules can be manipulated to reduce noise at source and on the fly, depending on the environment you're recording in, so you can plug in, hit record and leave with super clean audio. It will even allow you to set eq profiles as presets. Mics are also personal, and the ability to customise the mic, whether for appearance or a certain tactile feel, is available. As they say, the best mics are Ehrmantrouts!
